Live Free or Die Hard

Bruce Willis doesn't disappoint. Never much of a story, but lots of explosions and action. That's what the audience really wants anyways from the Die Hard series. This time it makes it more interesting with it being related to technology and how it can put the world at its knees. You'll also get to see Maggie Q as the evil assistant here.

Home of the Brave

Not much of a story. It's kind of a waste of Samuel Jackson's talent. Definitely could have been better. An emotional story of soldiers who come back from a war who has lost touch with reality. A nice concept for a film, but the incidents of war were not dramatic enough to be touching. If you want to catch 50 cents in another movie, this could be a casual watch.

Mr. Brooks

BUY
A well put together story. All the pieces fall in place at the end. This is a perfect thriller, leaving you at the edge of your seat. You can't somehow feel not to root for the serial killer. He's so good at what he does that you almost don't want him to be caught. If you liked the tv sitcom, Dexter, you will love Kevin Costner as Mr. Brooks. All the characters were created for a cause and that's a great film.

Ocean 13

BUY
This is a well put together story. The best scam of all time. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. It also helps that most of the cast are A list celebrities. If you love Brad Pitt and George Clooney, they come back here for another installation. This time you will also get Al Pacino as the villian. Now that's marvelous. It kind of reminds you of a subdued version of Scarface.

Reign Over Me

I was abit disappointed by this film. I had higher expectations for it and I thought that they could have done even better with it. Cheadle and Sandler could have brought it in more. It was a touching film but it just wasn't there yet. It kind of drops off at the end.

My Mother is a Belly Dancer

This is a horrible show. It was boring, boring, and boring. There was no point to it and everything moved so slow. Whoever directed this film should lose their license. The movie was just a waste of time, looking at objects that hardly move.

A Mighty Heart

RENT
If you want to see the inside story of Daniel Pearl, this is a good watch. It's a touching story of a reporter who wandered into enemy lands and is kidnapped by Al Qaida. If the US don't meet their demands, he will be executed. It is his wife's struggle that keeps him from drifting off into just memories and to keep his search alive.

Transformers

This movie definitely exceeded my expectation. I grew up watching the cartoon version, and this version of the movie was way cool. The robots were realistic and you will be blown away by their size and appearance. Megatron vs Optimus Prime. How can you miss their battle?

We Are Family

This was a horrible movie, especially disappointing since Hacken and Alan are the lead actors. It seem like they were imitiating the movie Meet the Parents, but they did a horrible job. It really wasn't funny and there was no story.

The Good German

What a waste of talent! George Clooney, Toby Maguire, and Cate Blanchett, but you get nothing good. What makes it worst is that it's in black and white. Some people might like the old flavor of film but I see boredom in it. Give me some more of Ocean 13 anytime. You watch the whole film and wonder what's the big secret behind the character of Cate, and it's total crap.

Rise of the Silver Surfer

The Silver Surfer is cool. That's the only reason to see it. Going to see it for the Fantastic Four, Jessica Alba, or Doctor Doom might not even do it. If you like Superman 3 with all the villians, you will like this one.

Letters from Iwo Jima

This film was better than its predecessor, Flag of the Fathers. This is sad because this one was in Japanese with subtitles. If you want to see the other side of World War II and how war is just war, this is a good watch.

The Contract

This one is a disappointment because there were great actors such as Morgan Freeman and John Cusack. It was just a boring story. There wasn't even a good bond established with the characters. An assassin got stuck in the forest with a civilian. You would think something interesting would come out of that plot.

The Holiday

RENT
A cast full of famous people don't disappoint. You have Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black. What more do you want? Superb acting and an original story will keep you interested. Quite a long film, so get ready for some romantic comedy.

Mr. 3 Minutes

It's hard to give a HK film even a "rent" rating. The plot starts to have some meaning at the end of the film, and that's too late. Screenwriters need to pick up the action quicker and give audience something to look forward to. If you didn't know better, you would think this would just be a kids movie.

For a film with a group of unknown actors, this ROCKS! If you are a weak soul and are afraid of some blood, stay clear. This is not for the weak. Blood and guts is the name of the game. This will show you the Spartan way. Honor, glory, and for the love of the battle.

Perfect Stranger

BUY
As usual, Halle Berry is an awesome actress and shocks viewers in this incredible thriller. Side by side with Bruce Willis, this is a must watch film to get you wanting for more. Just went you thought it was over, there's a new element injected into the plot and things change. You will never guess what will happen next. An ending that will shock you is what the audience craves for in a great thriller.

Blades of Glory

The dancing scenes were fantastic. Funny like hell! You will laugh every time you watch it. Will Ferrell and John Heder are dynamite comedians, and they will cheer you up from a dull night. Besides the ice skating scenes, the rest of the plot might not be anything to rave about.

Kings Ransom

There are some funny parts, but probably not worth seeing because there are so many movies out there. If you seen everything and you need something to watch, this isn't a bad comedy. Critics give it a zero rating which I think is kind of tough on this movie.

The Fountain

This film convinced me that good movie ideas are horrible without A list celebrities. In fact, I might never rent a movie without a cast that is famous. A concept of a fountain of youth is interesting, but this was total trash. It was boring and confusing to understand.

The Astronaut Farmer

I saw this in Midwest Airlines on a portable DVD player. There wasn't much choices, so I chose this movie. It was okay and there were so great scenes. Billy Bob Thornton shows that it is always important to keep the dream alive.

Spiderman 3

BUY
I also saw this on the smalll screen but wouldn't ming watching this on a larger screen again. Spiderman is an average superhero with flaws and people can relate to him. You can understand how nerve wracking proposals can be. You can understand how you can be corrupted to the dark side. You can understand how revenge is a strong desire. This is what makes the Spiderman series a must buy.

Fracture

I watched this on the plane and it was on a small screen but Anthony Hopkins was very captivating and kept me in suspense. It was a nice thriller and I was wondering what will happen next. This would be a BUY if the movie wasn't so dark and there was a better ending. A great film like this deserves a nice solid ending. Don't just give it an ending to end it.

Smokin Aces

This movie was so great that I forgot to review it. I totally forgot that I watched it. There's a mix of assassins out to kill one man. It's not anything great to watch. A disappointment because there was Ben Affleck and Alicia Keys. It's has the style of a English made film. I had a feeling it would be a bad film. I should have listened.

Shooter

Unexpectedly, this was a good film. It was a great story of a sniper and how he fought for his country and how the country can screw you. There are lots of explosions and if you like the concept of sniping, you will see some very realistic setups. It's a conspiracy plot and it's an interesting one that will keep you watching. I'm not a fan of Mark Walhberg, but he does well in this one.

Black Snake Moan

This is a story about a black man who locks up a white woman in his house because he feels that she is corrupted by the devil. Corrupted being that she sleeps with all the men in the town. Locking up a woman in a chain is a strong statement, but the film is dull and uninteresting. There is some great acting by Samual Jackson and Christina Ricci, but it doesn't save the movie. There's also Justin Timberlake... nevermind.

Black Dahlia

This was a horrible mystery film to watch. Some famous people in this one made it look "great" but it sure was boring. The unsolved, original mystery was an interesting watch in the DVD extras but the film was a disappointment. The mood was there, but nothing was happening.

The Last King of Scotland

RENT
It's a good story of the life of Amin and how he ruled Uganda. It's a tough world out there and for him to maintain power, he had to killed hundred of thousands of people. I wonder if there would ever be a ruler in Africa who can maintain peace among his people without fearing the lost of his own life. There are some grotesque scenes and if you don't have a strong stomach, you might want to skip the parts at the end. This film has many similaries to Blood Diamond and the brutality of living in a third world country.

Ghost Rider

RENT
It's nothing fantastic but is entertaining to watch, especially if you grew up reading the comics of the Ghostrider. Nicholas Cage wasn't great or anything, but the effects of him riding a flaming motorcycle was really nice.

The Good Shephard

Even though this film was directed by Robert DeNiro, it was totally boring. It moves slow and there is no suspense at all. I don't know what he was doing. If he was trying to appeal to the general audience, he is making a mistake. There's a famous cast like Matt Damon and Angeline Jolie, but unless you are into movies about conspiracy, this film will make you go to sleep.
