Black Dahlia

This was a horrible mystery film to watch. Some famous people in this one made it look "great" but it sure was boring. The unsolved, original mystery was an interesting watch in the DVD extras but the film was a disappointment. The mood was there, but nothing was happening.

The Last King of Scotland

RENT
It's a good story of the life of Amin and how he ruled Uganda. It's a tough world out there and for him to maintain power, he had to killed hundred of thousands of people. I wonder if there would ever be a ruler in Africa who can maintain peace among his people without fearing the lost of his own life. There are some grotesque scenes and if you don't have a strong stomach, you might want to skip the parts at the end. This film has many similaries to Blood Diamond and the brutality of living in a third world country.

Ghost Rider

RENT
It's nothing fantastic but is entertaining to watch, especially if you grew up reading the comics of the Ghostrider. Nicholas Cage wasn't great or anything, but the effects of him riding a flaming motorcycle was really nice.

The Good Shephard

DUMP
Even though this film was directed by Robert DeNiro, it was totally boring. It moves slow and there is no suspense at all. I don't know what he was doing. If he was trying to appeal to the general audience, he is making a mistake. There's a famous cast like Matt Damon and Angeline Jolie, but unless you are into movies about conspiracy, this film will make you go to sleep.

Blood Diamond

RENT
This film takes you into a third world country and shows you their civil war. This is Africa. The country has been used for many exploits and other countries pay big money for items such as diamonds and ivory. A brutal behind scenes of how it is to survive in Africa with a constant state of war. Leo plays a diamond mercenary from Africa and with his accent, he is a very believable character.

Norbit

This is worth it to see the many faces of Eddie Murphy. He plays three main characters and they each are very believable. Also, there were some funny scenes but wish there were more of those funny moments. It seems like all the best scenes were shown in the trailer. Look for Shawn Wayans. You will never recognize him.

Epic Movie

This movie was horrible. There were some parts that shouldn't be shown on TV, but for the sake of laughter, it was done. The only problem was that the scenes were not funny. This was a spoof gone bad. It looked like a video taken off the youtube website. It was amateur movie making.

Apocalypto

BUY
Mel Gibson's films are always spectacular. There are no famous actors but he manages to capture the audience with his brilliant visual effects. If you feel faint seeing sight of blood, this is not the film for you. Like most of Mel's films, they depict gore and guts spilling out of everywhere. In this movie, the Mayan indians are at war with themselves and it is a perfect historial representation of their culture. Mel has not lost his magic yet since Passion of the Christ.

DreamGirls

BUY
It was better than I expected. Beyonce made a stunning musical performance in a wide assortment of looks, showing variety in her character. With a good selection of song choices, it was entertaining to watch this musical drama of three girls' dream to rise to the top of the music charts.

The Devil Wears Prada

RENT
If you watched Devil's Advocate, this is very similar to that movie. This isn't about law, but the glamorous world of fashion. Ann Hathaway was a girl next door until she is seduced into the world of Meryl Streep's character. Look for a few screens of Gisele Bundchen.

It's a Wonderful Life

RENT
It's an assortment of funny jokes for the Lunar New Year. Sometimes they don't make sense but it's all for fun and laughter. There is a theme involved and still happens to keep you interested. A kid was promised help from a God when he was in trouble, and the God has to fullfil his wish when the kid grew up.

Flags of Our Father

RENT
This gives a new twist to the war movie genre. It shows the propoganda side of it where the government have to use every which way to make money to fund the war. In this case, it is to use a popular photo to display heroism and hope of winning the war. It takes you inside a war and gives you a better understanding of it.

Deja Vu

BUY
A very nice story that keeps you in suspense. You will always be wondering what will happen next. A great science fiction thriller of how Denzel goes back in the past and tries to change the tragedy that would occur. Didn't you ever wonder how great that would be to change the past.

The Cleaner

BUY
Cedric the Entertainer is really funny and you will laugh throughout the film. Lucy Liu worked well with Cedric, and keeps you interested. It seems like Lucy's acting has gotten better over the years. This is a great film if you want to sit back and just laugh.

House of Mahjong

DUMP
Another film on MJ, but this one was funny and keeps you interested. However, if you know nothing about MJ, you might want to skip this film.

Twins Mission

DUMP
I didn't have high expectations for Twin films, but this one wasn't that bad. There was a doable story, even though the acting is kind of weak. Even so, it's really hard to recommend a Twins movie to watch.

Pursuit of Happiness

BUY
If you are down and out about life, this is the film to watch. You don't really have it bad unless you wound up like Will Smith's character in this film. What can be worst than not having a job with no income and no place to live with your son. After watching this film, you will cherish more of the things you enjoy as basics of life. Having a place to live; having an income; having food to eat; having a family.

Protege

DUMP
This was a horrible film for Andy. I'm one of his fans but this film was boring to watch. The story is nothing new and it's about an undercover cop attempt to takedown a drug dealer. It's worst enough that it's not an original concept, but even as a crime drama, it was terrible. There was no suspense and action.

Kung Fu Majong 3

RENT
This is yet another mahjong film, but this has a slightly better story. It's nothing new, but still stays alive. There's not much more to say.

Stranger Than Fiction

DUMP
This was a big disappointment. This was probably the worst of Will Ferrell's films. It's not even worth watching. It wasn't funny and it wasn't inspirational. The film was definitely commercially promoted, but came out horrible. Maggie G was a better actor than Will.

Happy Birthday

DUMP
A very pointless film about two people who love each other, but never seem to be able to stay together. The boyfriend always sends a birthday wish to the girl, no matter where he is. Total worthless story that tried and failed miserably. A surprising ending that was not worth the wait.

Babel

DUMP
Stay away from this film even though Brad Pitt is in it. You will be disappointed. This film might have some artistic meaning but it was horrible to watch. Things are disjointed and you are in totally different places of the world in a matter of minutes. It might show that accidents can anywhere and have consequences to other people of the world, but it was sure boring to watch.

Bet to Basic

I think the mahjong series are dead. There have been literally hundred of movies on mahjong and it's not interesting to watch anymore. The jokes were especially not funny and the final mahjong match at the end was a total bummer. These type of movies are predictable and there's no new ideas from it anymore.

After This Our Exile

RENT
Aaron won the Golden Horse award for his spectacular performance in this film. However, throughout the film, he was just a very angry man. It only made it impressive because Aaron was in such a serious role. He is usually only known for his singing as a popstar idol. Besides all that, it is still worth watching because Aaron is making a breakthrough in his acting and Charlie comes out of retirement. We haven't seen her on film for awhile, and she still looks great. Kelly Lin also stars as a prostitute who gets involved with Aaron. If you do see this film, set aside 3 hours. This is a long film and it does get very dull after the second hour.

2 Become 1

A futile effort to show the fight against breast cancer. It's a nice try to be inspirational but the story falls flat and it isn't interesting to watch. It doesn't do too well as a romantic comedy either. In addition, I never understand why Richie does film. He can't act or speak correctly.

Rocky Balboa

BUY
After thirty years with Slyvester Stallone as Rocky, this is the last of the series. If you grew up watching the Rocky series, this will definitely bring back memories. This has always been an inspirational film showing that nothing is impossible, and this one is no exception. Comes with all the classic Rocky music and more.

Borat

BUY
Borat is really funny. He doesn't know any of the modern things in America, and makes you laugh with the silly stunts that he performs. It doesn't look like he is acting and everything seems very believable and that Borat is really a dumb man. In fact, probably, the actor himself is making millions out of this movie.

Casino Royale

BUY
I thought this might be a disappointing film compared to the rest of the Bond series, but it turned out okay. Daniel Craig isn't as suave as Pierce Brosnan, but he gets the job done. The theme of the movie was a high stake poker game but they spent too much time on the game. Most people who have no interest in poker would have suddenly lost interest. There's a nice twist to the story at the end but it seem drawn out.

On the Edge

DUMP
This is a story of an undercover cop who finishes his job and goes back to being a regular cop. This shows that it's not easy being good again when you lived a life of crime for many years. In fact, there are some things or pleasure you enjoyed when you were a convict of the law.

My Name is Fame

I had higher expectation for this film and after watching it, I felt very disappointed. They could have did so much better with this story but it really falls short. When it ended, it was a real downer because they started development of the character and story but never finishes it off. What a waste!
